snow day, home day.

yesterday the signs on the freeway warned of a snow storm coming at 4pm. it hasn't stopped. my car is buried and we are trapped in doors.
we have spent hours watching the snow fall.

while listening to a book on tape. Shackleton's Way... it is the story of Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to Antarctica. I don't want to leave my heated house. Can't imagine being stranded on ice for months on end.
and googling if babies can get coldsores. can they? i have never had one. but there sure is a weird little thing on the babes lip.
bottom line googling does not put your mind at ease. well... here's to hoping it is just an infected scratch.

goals for 2013

enjoy more.
enjoy the crying... eventually he will laugh. enjoy the fact that he needs me.. ALL THE TIME.... one day he won't.
desclaimer: it is not that i don't already enjoy my baby... but sometimes life gets in the way and i forget to stop and think and enjoy the small things. the normal things. the daily life things.

be more patient. be a better cleaner. cook more. be more patient (didn't even realize i wrote that twice.... must be extra important.) live in the moment. stop worrying about what is next. start projects. finish projects. keep a journal. document the milestones.

the best year yet.

or at least the most life changing...

on the road

somewhere between salt lake city and las vegas

one of the places we always stop on our road trips is a little place called scipio. there is a gas station and a dairy queen and a petting zoo????

it is actually quite depressing BUT i couldn't help myself.
did i mention that it smelled? cos it did.

the best five months

time has flown. i cannot believe how much i can love a little person. some of his favorite things are bath time, his dad, his binky, newly found finn, watching videos of himself and eating.   he likes to be constantly entertained and held.  he has acid reflux which can cause uncontrollable tears.  he doesn't sleep more than four hours at a time to my dismay. he hasn't been gaining weight in the last month (maybe due to the reflux) and he is now only in the 10% for weight!
we love this little squirt and can't wait to see what the next months bring!

house hunting.

housing hunting (sigh). two words i thought i would love together.

turns out  it is as about as fun as going to the dentist. we have been looking for house for quite a while now.  it seems that so has everyone else in our price range. a house is there and then it's gone. in a matter of days... or day or hours.
who can make a house buying decision with a 15 minute walk through! i mean come on. i can barely decide what i want for dinner. maybe that is the problem. i am indecisive and picky and a bunch of other things.

so... the question is does my dream house exist. does a first home need to be a dream house?  i need help. who has bought a first home? if you had a husband, a baby and a dog (cos that's what i got) what would be important to you?   HEELLLP. puh-lease.

some wants are...
- a backyard
-an open concept
-a couple or more rooms on the same level
-a master bathroom
-something cute
-something with character or charm or quirks that make it unique
having the simple choice of a house with grass on the roof or a house with grass on the roof would sure make my life a whole lot easier.  photo found here.

the what to have for dinner on a snowy day dilemma

clean out the fridge pasta it is.

a white wine and garlic butter sauce with mushrooms, spinach and bow-tie pasta.

2 Tblsp. butter
1 clove garlic crushed
sautee....
1 c. mushrooms
1/4 c. white wine
3/4 c. spinach ( mine was the frozen, chopped variety) fresh probably would have been ideal. but, this wouldn't have cleaned out my freezer

keep this cooking in the sautee pan on low while the pasta cooks.

add pasta to the pan. top with some parmesan cheese. mix until the cheese melts. add salt and pepper to taste.

it takes about as long as it takes to boil water and cook pasta. simple. yummy. cleaned out my fridge and didn't have to go to the store:)
